Keep Climbing, Girls

by Beah E. Richards

Book Description

The text for this book is a poem first published in 1951 by Beah Richards, a renowned African-American writer. Her poem speaks of the determination and courage of a young girl who insists on climbing to the top of a very tall tree despite the warnings from Miss Nettie and the consequences that must be faced when she finally climbs down.
In the end, “The moral is: Keep climbing girls, and let no one prevent you!” R. Gregory Christie created stunning illustrations that accompany this empowering story about African-American girls.
